The XI version of the most important aquaculture exhibition in the Southern Hemisphere, AquaSur 2022, to be held between March 2 and 4 in Puerto Montt, will have a full and interesting program of activities. Within the framework of the fair, on Wednesday, March 3, the International AquaSur Blue Trilogy Congress will be held: Ocean, Aquaculture and Society, feeding the future, which will address issues of Sustainability and innovation; Technology and human capital: the changes that are coming and; Well-being and health, a One Health perspective. The inauguration of the international congress will be attended by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, an entity that supports and promotes associativity in the aquaculture industry. The meeting will also highlight the fact that 2022 is the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture declared by FAO. On the occasion, the executive director of AquaSur, Rodrigo Lobo, said that “this international meeting will address the major challenges of the aquaculture sector, its future development and new technologies for a more sustainable industry”. Seminars The first module of the congress, which begins at 10:00 am, will be dedicated to “Sustainability and innovation”, where the Secretary of Aquaculture and Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply of Brazil will speak about the transformations for a sustainable ocean economy: A vision for protection, production and prosperity. Alfredo Tello, Sustainability Manager of Camanchaca S.A., will also present on ESG criteria, which refer to environmental, social and corporate governance factors that are taken into account when investing in a company and have become the benchmark for sustainable investment. There will also be a presentation on innovation oriented to sustainability: The vector to transform business and; experiences from algae aquaculture and CO2 capture will be shared. Finally, there will be a presentation on regenerative ocean farming and a collaborative model for coastal regeneration in Chile. Module 2, which starts at 12:00 noon, is entitled “Technology and human capital: the changes to come”. The first presentation will address the impact on sustainable development goals, followed by a presentation on why the world is trying to develop new agricultural technologies. This panel will also address topics such as: The performance of protein producers in a world that demands sustainability; climate change and the human factor needed to succeed. And it will close with a presentation on how to rethink an industry with a new social contract for aquaculture. The third module will deal with the topics of welfare where the presentations will be oriented to the contribution of aquaculture to human welfare and the protection of natural resources; blue foods and how to contribute to achieve more equitable and sustainable food systems; how blue foods can contribute to achieve more equitable and sustainable food systems and finally there will be the presentation on PROBLUE: healthy oceans, healthy economies and healthy communities. The international meeting will be held live on site and by streaming through the virtual platform AquaSur Connect, which will also feature an open Marketplace where companies can display products and services with quick and advanced search filters for easy navigation, which can also be appreciated during their visit to the venue. The exhibition, which will be held in the Los Lagos Region, also seeks to contribute to the reactivation of the economy and local and national development through the generation of business opportunities and the creation of direct and indirect jobs that are produced around the fair.
