“We specialize in parameters such as flow, level, pressure, liquid and gas analysis, temperature and more. We have a strong orientation to the development of industries, being food and beverages, as well as mining the ones we work the hardest in Chile. We constantly seek to offer integral solutions that improve the efficiency of our clients’ processes,” explained Oscar Córdova, Endress+Hauser’s Endress+Hauser, in an interview with Salmonexpert. Endress+Hauser’s motivation to develop measurement technologies focused on water resource management stems from the growing global need to manage this resource sustainably and efficiently. “Understanding water as a limited and critical resource for life and an industry such as salmon farming, we strive to create innovative solutions that enable accurate measurement, enable efficient controls, and thus impact on sustainable water management in both quantity and quality,” said Córdova. To this end, the company has technologies for the stages of extraction, preparation and distribution depending on the source, and subsequent wastewater treatment, as well as water reuse, thus contributing to the protection of the environment and the responsible use of water resources. For Cristian Asencio, general manager of Akotek, a company representing Endress+Hauser between the Araucanía and Magallanes regions, according to experience, implementing water quality measurement and monitoring solutions specifically helps to ensure that water enters the process in adequate quantity and quality and to ensure that the generation of ILW does not generate environmental impact to help producers’ processes to be more sustainable over time. “There are critical parameters associated with quantity, such as volumetric water flow, and some more related to quality, such as water pH, dissolved oxygen content, conductivity or turbidity. All these variables are essential for the maintenance of an optimal aquatic environment in salmon farming. These solutions allow fish farms to monitor and control water conditions precisely and in real time, thus ensuring the health and optimal growth of the salmon,” said Asencio. Technologies According to the Akotek executive, it is essential to have measurement technologies with customer-acceptable accuracy and reliability of the measured data that allow a high standard of quality in the measurement, and that have alternatives for communicating the measured data. “We have Memosens 2.0 for the liquid analysis line, a technology that allows us to store up to 8 calibrations in the sensor head, change it at the point of measurement for a new or recently calibrated one and perform maintenance in the laboratory without interrupting the process. At the same time Netilion, Endress+Hauser’s digital ecosystem allows us to monitor variables and instrument health remotely, accessing data from the cloud. These technologies have been widely used in other applications in industries, such as remote well and heap leach monitoring in mining, water capture and return points in Water & Wastewater treatment plants, among others,” said Ascencio. In Córdova’s opinion, the long-term benefits of having these technologies in the salmon farming industry are related to ensuring the conservation of resources, lower consumption of water resources or guaranteeing that it is returned with the best quality, since it has a direct impact on the availability of water for other sectors or industries. “It is also related to compliance, as quality standards are increasingly stringent and require more accurate and reliable measurements. Finally, it is related to process availability, measurements of analytical variables or measured flow that have a direct impact on plant availability,” said the Endress+Hauser professional, who added that they will be present at AQUASUR 2024, showing all their technologies and developments. “It is also related to compliance, as quality standards are increasingly stringent and require more accurate and reliable measurements.
