NewDEPOMOD is designed to predict the dispersion of sediments from fish farms and their impact on the seafloor. This program has been developed from over 20 years of research of particle tracking in the marine environment and the associated effects on benthic fauna and seabed. SAMS has worked closely with the Scottish salmon farming sector to ensure that the modelling programme meets regulatory requirements while enabling producers to optimise farm biomass, thereby maximising their production. Using environmental data, such as local bathymetry and currents, and production data, NewDEPOMOD allows the user to optimise the available biomass, the amount of feed, the best farm location, as well as the optimal configuration of pens. The calculation based on the expected deposition of feed residues and fecal particles from the stock. The modeled data shows the intensity and spatial variation of the impact around the farm, comparing and validating the results with the required environmental quality standards. The NewDEPOMOD team now actively works with customers and collaborators in more than 12 countries around the world with licensees including producers, academic researchers, consultants and regulators. If you would like to learn more and attend a demonstration, we will be happy to welcome you at our booth G-34, alternatively we can arrange a separate meeting in Puerto Montt or Puerto Varas.
